What is caffeine snus?

A caffeine pouch looks and works like a nicotine pouch. You put it under your top lip and it releases caffeine instead of nicotine. People use them in place of a coffee or an energy drink when a drink isn't practical: driving, at a desk, before training.

How much caffeine is in a pouch?

The NHS puts a mug of instant coffee at around 100mg and a mug of filter coffee at around 140mg. So an 80mg pouch is a modest coffee and a 120mg pouch is a strong one.

The usual guidance for healthy adults is to stay under 400mg of caffeine a day from all sources, and under 200mg a day if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. Count your tea, coffee and energy drinks alongside the pouches.

How to use caffeine pouches

Put one pouch between your top lip and gum and leave it there. Take it out when the flavour fades or when you've had enough. Don't chew or swallow it. One at a time, and avoid them late in the day unless you're happy to be awake. If you feel jittery or your heart is racing, take the pouch out and leave it for the day.
